FINE CHEMICAL DIVISION

Leading fine and specialty chemicals company, the independent French-based Axyntis group with more than 310 employees has inherited a long history – dyes started in 1881 at Saint Marcel and fine chemicals rooted at Grasse in 1879 under the name “Schmoller et Bompard” for perfumery. The group designs innovative chemical processes and offers project management working in close collaboration with its customers.

The Axyntis group has two divisions. One, Steiner, dedicated to dyes; the other, Axyntis fine chemicals dedicated to fine chemicals. Each division has its area of specialism even if they share the same safety and environment policy as well as joint resources for developing synergies (REACH; industrial production).

The dyes division, Steiner, has been producing synthetic dyes since 1881. Dyes are mainly formulated for petroleum, oil, paper, cardboard, leather, textiles, wood, ink, plus various other applications currently under development (varnish, photos, etc.). 80 people work for Steiner at St Marcel in France, producing 8000 tons of formulated products per year. Steiner’s R&D laboratory, which employs 10 people, formulates and develops new technologies. Steiner’s customers are located in Europe, America, Africa, and throughout the entire Mediterranean region. Steiner is equipped with a water treatment station and is ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified.

Steiner also has a branch based in Great Britain under the name of Steiner UK which serves a local customer base and acts as a second internal source to secure the supply chain of its European customers.

The fine chemicals division, Axyntis fine chemicals, with its 380 m3 capacity certified as cGMP, is made up of four different plants, each with its own specialism:

These plants complement one another, delivering well-regulated manufacturing solutions to their customers:

  • Orgapharmsupplies key advanced intermediates and APIs for the pharmaceuticals industry and liquid crystals for the electronics industry;
  • Centipharm supplies exclusive key intermediates and generics and offers regulatory support (US and European DMF and CEP);
  • All’Chemsupplies key intermediates for the electronics and agro industries and specialty chemicals;
  • Synthexim supplies key intermediates for the pharmaceuticals industry.

Both Orgapharm and Centipharm have an R&D center and pilot facilities making these two plants a unique ”one stop shop” for customers enabling a smooth transition from R&D to production (process development; scale up).

The four plants are classified under Seveso II, two of them as higher tier: this reflects the ability to perform complex chemistry and specific reactions that require a high level of technical competence and specialized know-how.

With a competitive cost structure and a business network which has recently been extended to include the US and Asia, the Axyntis group offers the optimum balance between expertise in specific reactions, flexibility, cost efficiency and time management for projects from innovative and fast growing companies in Europe, North America and Asia.
